Tunisia – “No judiciary… no law… honorable people in prisons.” With this slogan, the voices of protesters from the families of political detainees and opponents of Tunisian President Kais Saied resounded, during a protest stand today, Thursday, before the Court of Appeal; To demand their release after more than 5 months in prison.
In the vicinity of the Court of Appeal, security forces were stationed and policemen were deployed heavily everywhere to prevent protesters from advancing inside the court, but the vigil did not witness clashes between the two parties, and the protesters only raised slogans calling for the hand over the judiciary and the cessation of political trials.
Since February 2023, the Tunisian authorities have launched a campaign of large-scale raids and arrests of dozens of political leaders who are in the front ranks of parties such as the Ennahda movement, the Democratic Current, the Republican Party, political activists in the opposition Salvation Front, and others.
Among the detainees, the leader of the Ennahda Movement, the dissolved Parliament Speaker, Rashid Ghannouchi, who spent his 83rd birthday in prison. The authorities decided to prevent the activities of the Salvation Front, whose main component is the Ennahdha movement, or to meet at its headquarters.
