- October 15, 2021: Judicial authorities opened an investigation regarding statements made by the former president, Moncef Marzouki, in France, according to the official spokesman of the Court of Appeal, Habib Al-Tarkhani, in a statement to the official Tunisian agency. He explained that this was based on Article 23 of the Penal Code, and after the permission issued by the Minister of Justice and after the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal authorized the Public Prosecutor at the Primary Court.
- On October 14, 2021, Kais Saied said, while presiding over a cabinet meeting, that he “will withdraw diplomatic passports from those who went abroad begging outsiders to undermine Tunisian interests, and there is no room for such a person to be able to enjoy this privilege while he roams capitals and meets a number of people to harm Tunisia” according to his statement. And according to Saied’s previous statements, the person meant is the former Tunisian President Mohamed Moncef Marzouki.
- February 4, 2022: The Communication Office of the Primary Court in Tunis announced on Thursday, February 4, 2022, that the investigating judge in charge of the case of the former president, Moncef Marzouki, had issued an international arrest warrant against him.
- On December 22, 2022, an in absentia sentence was issued against Marzouki, sentencing him to four years in prison with immediate effect, following the issuance of an international arrest warrant against him.
