The investigating judge at the Financial Judicial Pole issued a prison order against businessman Youssef Mimouni, on charges of financial corruption related to obtaining bank loans through illegal means, which led to financial damage to banking institutions.
This case comes in the context of investigations conducted by the Central Brigade of the National Guard, to uncover financial violations that included granting loans without sufficient guarantees and financial violations that resulted in significant losses for banks.
Despite Youssef Mimouni’s denial of the charges, insisting on the legality of his transactions, his detention continues pending the completion of investigations that are expected to include additional parties to determine the extent of involvement in these violations.
These cases raise questions about transparency and oversight procedures in the banking sector in Tunisia, at a time when the authorities continue to take strict measures against public figures, which increases concerns about the use of the judiciary to target businessmen.
It is noteworthy that Mimouni had carried out criminal reconciliation procedures with the state, but the court decided to postpone consideration of the case until the next December session to await the completion of the legal quorum of the body and the outcome of the criminal reconciliation.
